Adirondack Furniture

I really enjoyed building this adirondack furniture. I used cypress which was really easy to work with. These chairs are extremely comfortable and get a lot of use on our deck.

After a trip to Dunham Hardwoods, I had over 100 BF of nice looking cypress.
A look at one of the chair's frame.
I think cypress is some nice looking wood.
The two chairs are done, except for rounding the tops. I was really scared the jigsaw would cause tearout, so I put off doing this final task.
The settee has 16 backslats and takes a little longer.
Can you find the knot on the settee?
Finally, I got the guts to round the tops! The jigsaw worked like a champ and just a little sanding was needed.
This is now "cocktail-ready"
Here is the finished settee and table. I used Olympic Maximum Redwood stain on these.
Another look. The bear sure likes them better than the plastic crap furniture that was previously on our deck.
The remaining pictures are for another set I made for a friend at work. I used McFeely's square drive stainless screws on this set which made things much easier.
On the very last piece of this set, while I was filing the leg, a chunk splintered off the top. It made me sick and I thought I would have to build another ottoman.
I ended up cutting a piece out of scrap and patching the ottoman. You have to look hard to see the flaw and my friend said not to worry about it. He was paying for the furniture and I offered to build him another one, but he said not to.
